Therm-a-rest Compressible Pillows

Therm-a-rest Compressible Pillows

I've read a lot of blogs about camping gear. One of the most startling things to me is the recommendation that you use your stuff sack as a pillow with your down jacket, or whatever other clothes you have with you. I understand this is a good idea if you are trying to go ultralight on a backpacking trip. I don't understand using this type of lumpy flat pillow at any other time.

I love to sleep! Just read my other blogs about my sleeping pad, and my sleeping bag. I really like to sleep comfortably while camping.

A good pad and a good sleeping bag are great factors of a good nights sleep. Your head still needs something to lay on, though! While I would love to bring my bed pillow with me while camping, this isn't really practical most of the time. We have smaller Nemo pillows for when we backpack or need to go small, but I wanted something a little better than those for the more "car camping" situations. I found these amazing pillows from Therm-A-Rest that are a good compromise. From their website: "the pillow foam is sourced from up-cycled foam from our pad manufacturing. The soft, foam filling packs small and expands big".

They really do compress quite small considering how much they expand. We purchased the medium size and have taken them car camping, backpacking, on airplanes, to hotels and a cabin. Regardless of the size you purchase, they all expand to 4" thick which is a great amount of fluff for side sleepers like us.

They have a very smart design for packing. They roll into a flap on the side with a cinch to tighten it down. They compress into a cylinder shape just a little bigger than a 32 ounce water bottle.

They recommend washing as soon as you receive the pillows, because it helps the foam to fully expand. We've washed ours after almost every trip and they are holding up very well. They seem to get a little more fluffy every time we wash them.

If you've been looking for a compressible pillow to camp or travel with, we think you should check out the Therm-A-Rest line of Compressible Pillows. We think they are awesome!
